Going to a movie was like going to a play,Ato Matsumoto Sneakers, only there was no live action. Some people even dressed up to go to a movie,Kanye West Air Yeezy Shoes, and frequently two movies were shown with an intermission in a large movie house with only one screen. Movies provided a much-needed escape from stressful world events for large, enthusiastic audiences. Gone with the Wind is the most widely seen movie ever made (though not the highest grossing film – due to the increase in ticket prices).
In the early days of television, the number of channels was limited and the viewing was also restricted to mostly daytime and early evening hours (prime time). Economic forces began to spawn the idea of expanding number of channels available and opening up viewing to around the clock programming. Largely due to the vision of Ted Turner , Cable TV was born. Today there are hundreds of cable channels, catering to every conceivable niche market 24/7,Ato Matsumoto Shoes, creating unlimited possibilities for advertising, as well as programming. This creates infinite choice of what, when, and how to watch movies.
The post-war years of the 1950’s and 60’s were upbeat. America was on top of the world, and a large, strong middle class emerged. During this post-war economic boom, television revolutionized American life. Again, experts thought that movies would die out. When movies became popular in the late 1920’s it was said that the stage was “dead.” Not so. People had a choice of whether to go to the movies, or to see live theater. They did both, though eventually, movies became far more popular than the theater. The theater is still with us, but mainly reserved for those who can afford the often-pricey tickets.

Movies Helped People through the Great Depression and World War II
Cable TV not only created infinite programming; it created On-Demand as a way to catch movies that are fresh out of movie theaters. It was bound to happen. Just wait awhile and viewers can choose from a large menu of nearly current films, pay less than the price of a movie ticket, watch in the comfort of their own homes (without getting dressed, driving somewhere, parking, and having to put up with noisy and disruptive audiences). The popular video subscription service, Netflix sends films through the mail or provides an Instant Play option in conjunction with wireless devices such as the affordable, easy-to-use Roku. Clearly, rapidly evolving technology is also driving the way people watch movies.
