Menthol Cigarettes Attract Young Smokers
In 2009, the President signed the Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act. The Tobacco Control Act gives the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) right to control the production, advertisement and distribution of tobacco products to protect public health and to decrease tobacco consumption among children and adult people.
“This organization is created to prevent our children from becoming the future generation of Americans to die early from smoking related diseases. Also anti-smoking laws may stop our children from becoming addicted to nicotine for their whole lives,” stated,Menthol Cigarettes Attract Young Smokers, newport cigarettes, Dr. Howard Koh,Altria to test Marlboro and Skoal Smokeless Sticks, assistant secretary for Health Human Services.
The first provision of the given law took effect in September 2009 and prohibited flavored cigarettes. This ban excluded menthol cigarettes and didn’t cover other type of flavored tobacco products as for instance, original newport cigarettes, cigars and hookah.
Menthol makes the taste of cigarettes even more savory to new smokers by stimulating cold receptors and lessening the discomfort associated with smoking.
