There are times when he feels he has exhausted himself in a subject or a field, in that case he changes tack or starts studying new subjects. A similar situation occurred when he had just finished Lie Down with the Lions. <br />This Marks the Birth of the Pillars <br />At this juncture, he came back to an earlier idea about cathedrals and developed it into The Pillars of the Earth. Presently he is working on the subject of genetic engineering in the present day society. It’s a Ken Follett project, so there is some natural suspense in the story though it’s not a thriller.
