Waterhouse <br />Psyche Entering Cupid&rsquo;s Garden and Opening the Golden Box <br />Numerous sumptuous and classical paintings of Cupid and Psyche exist, with the “ravishing” or taking of Psyche to Cupid&rsquo;s celestial lair being a common theme. The end of the 19th century, however, brought an interesting shift in certain depictions of the loveliest mortal. The story of Psyche and Cupid was a favorite subject for Pre-Raphaelites Edward Burne-Jones and John William Waterhouse. In Waterhouse&rsquo;s <span style="font-style: italic">Psyche Entering Cupid&lsquo;s Garden</span> (1904), Psyche moves away from being just the bride of Cupid to a unique woman going through a seriously troubling time.
