Again here there is a nice tendency to allow the characterizations to revel in their ambiguity. They do not appear shallow nor underdeveloped but approachable and real; as if we really had driven up that isolated farm pathway and discovered these people at its end. <br />Dan (John Lynch) is a farmer who has sought to supplement his income by allowing revolutionary genetic research to be carried out on his livestock. Research that now sees a pregnant cow on the cusp of giving birth to a &lsquo;modified&rsquo; calf. Dan immediately cuts a lonely figure, somewhat strangely out of his element upon a run down dairy farm that is perpetually drenched in rain. Every thing that can leak does and isolation, both actual and mental is evoked at every turn from the very outset. <br />Isolation crawls through its script with a pace that conjures comparison to Ridley Scott&rsquo;s Alien. But where Alien&rsquo;s gentle unfolding worked to build a simmering dread on its way to the film&rsquo;s climax this film unfortunately instead drifts into predictability. <br />This is exactly what the next two cast members actually do. Mary (Ruth Negga) and boyfriend Jamie (Sean Harris) are on the run and take refuge within their caravan at the edge of Dan&rsquo;s property. They also have a back-story that is touched upon but never elaborated. This allows them to bring their own underlying air of mystery as they are slotted into the narratives main thrust. The doctor (Crispin Letts) who was responsible for the initial genetic research also appears in a futile attempt to reign in his rapidly evolving creation. He, save for a visiting policeman, rounds of what is a very small cast but one that nonetheless works well to further develop the films blanket themes of isolation and detachment. <br />Isolation &ndash; Plot Synopsis (Contains Spoilers) <br />Well Crafted Pace that Ultimately Leads to Nowhere <br />The viewer is dropped into a scenario that is already in full flight. This is one of the films most refreshing aspects <a href="http://www.airmaxsneakers.net/nike-air-max-97" target="_blank" class="postlink">nike air max 97</a>, to not have to endure a first act that laboriously stakes out a back-story to flesh out its cast. We do not need to know the minute personal details of the characters involved, and here empathy is instead created excellently in the moment. <br />Isolation returns horror film-making back to where it has always seemed most comfortable. Back to a style that relies on an almost tactile sense of atmosphere over big budget computer generated attempts to scare; the likes of which we have all become far too accustomed. So it is Isolation'slook <a href="http://www.airmaxsneakers.net/nike-air-max-tn" target="_blank" class="postlink">air max tn plus</a>, its feel, that lingers most after viewing.
