Funnily enough, no kids had to be taken out of the screening I attended. In fact, the only incident that really shocked and horrified the mainly preteen audience was a . . . (wait for it) . . . <span style="font-style: italic">KISSING</span> scene! Oh the humanity. <br />Does <span style="font-style: italic">Monster House</span> entertain its target audience: kids who like being scared? You bet your large popcorn with butter-flavoured sludge. Yeah,<a href="http://www.nikejordanshoes.cc/air-jordan-8-42/" target="_blank" class="postlink">Air Jordan 8</a>, there are a couple of plot holes (for instance: how does a 12-year-old learn how to use an earth mover so fast?). And yeah, Spielberg plays with your emotions like Pagannini on a Stradivarius. But when he does it so well,<a href="http://www.nikejordanshoes.cc/jordan-spizike-59/" target="_blank" class="postlink">Air Jordan Spizike</a>, who really cares? A solid 8/10. <br />Forget the director's name (Gil Kenan, for those of you who are keeping score). This is a Steven Spielberg flick right down to its very bones. And if you've ever seen flicks like or <span style="font-style: italic">Jaws</span>, you know how it all works. <br />Read on <br />Stephen Moffat Leaves Tintin <br />Disney Calling All Robots <br />Thomas Sangster is Tintin? <br />Trailers with <span style="font-style: italic">Monster House</span> include <span style="font-style: italic">Meet the Robinsons</span>, <span style="font-style: italic">A Night at the Museum</span>, <span style="font-style: italic">Flushed Away</span>, <span style="font-style: italic">Zoom</span>,<a href="http://www.nikejordanshoes.cc/air-jordan-7-41/" target="_blank" class="postlink">Air Jordan 7 Shoes</a>, and <span style="font-style: italic">Open Season</span>. <br />A gang of mis-matched kids realize the house is an evil monster (we know it's evil because it eats a puppy. Eating adults are one thing, but a puppy!). Anyway, the clueless grownups don't believe the kids, the monster house chomps the clueless grownups in inventive ways, and the kids must figure out how to destroy it. We've seen it all before: the trick is seeing how Spielberg and Kenan take these familiar elements and work with them. And Spielberg is a past master at telling this kind of story. <br /><span style="font-style: italic">Monster House</span> was animated using Motion Capture technology, the same process that Spielberg and Zemekis used for 2004's <span style="font-style: italic">Polar Express</span>. This time,<a href="http://www.nikejordanshoes.cc/jordan-true-flight-68/" target="_blank" class="postlink">Air Jordans True Flight</a>, they've grafted it to a much stronger script. The MOCAP process isn't perfect (everyone's hair looks Superglued) but the facial expressions are very well done. And while the titular house won't give Disney animators sleepless nights, it makes for a very effective villain. <br />There's that one house in every neighborhood. The one the kids won't go near. The one with the scary old man (Steve Buscemi) who tells everyone off for walking on his lawn, and steals their toys. But this house is different. Twelve-year-old DJ (Mitchell Musso) thinks this house is alive.
