Temat postu: Jordan 20 Brant Parker (1920 - 2007) cartoonist co
In 1950, Parker met the biggest contact of his life when he was asked to judge a high school art contest. One of the contestants was a 18-year-old student named Johnny Hart and the two quickly became friends.
Brant Parker was laid to rest Wednesday at St. Mark's Catholic Church in Vienna, Virginia. He is survived by his Mary-Louise,

, five children, a brother, 13 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
"My father will be dearly missed," said Jeff Parker. "Sharing the passion of cartooning with my father was a great gift. It has been a privilege to pass this joy along to others as we continue The Wizard of Id."

After The Wizard of Id became a success, fellow cartoonists Bill Rechin and Don Wilder asked Parker to assist them with the comic strips Out of Bounds and Crock. Parker eventually left both strips to work on The Wizard of Id full-time.
That year, he followed his girfriend Mary Louise Sweet – later his wife – to her hometown of Endicott, New York. He was hired as a staff artist for the Binghamton Press.
In a statement on Monday, Bobbie Hart (Johnny's widow) called Parker "Johnny's mentor,

Parker went on to work for IBM in 1954 as an art director. It was ten years later when Hart (who had already found success with his comic strip asked Parker to collaborate on a "dark humor for the Dark Ages" comic strip, an idea taken from a deck of playing cards. That strip was The Wizard of Id.
(Source: Parker, the award-winning co-creator of the comic strip The Wizard of Id, passed on April 15th in Lynchburg, Virginia. He died just eight days after his The Wizard of Id collaborator and friend Johnny Hart succumbed to a stroke. Parker was 86.
"Brant was a truly innovative mind in the comics world," said Rick Newcombe, president of Creators Syndicate and The Wizard of Id's distributor. "The artistry he displayed in The Wizard of Id was remarkable for its consistency and creativity."
To say that The Wizard of Id put Parker on the map was an understatement. Parker won the National Cartoonist Society Humor Comic Strip Award five times (1971,

, 1976, 1980, 1982, and 1983). He also received the NCS' Reuben Award in 1984 and the Elzie Segar Award in 1986.
Hart and Parker worked together on the strip until 1997, when Parker suffered a stroke. He then turned his duties over to his son Jeff, who worked with Hart until Hart's death earlier this year. Creators Syndicate announced that both and The Wizard of Id will continue, with members of the Parker and Hart families working on the comic strips.
Parker was born in Los Angeles, August 26, 1920. He was an avid cartoonist in high school, learning from Pulitzer Prize winning cartoonist Bruce Russell. After graduation, he attended art school, then served in the United States Navy during World War II.
After mustering out,

Though he never received any credit, he worked on several Donald Duck shorts and Mickey and the Beanstalk, a 30-minute segment in the 1947 film Fun and Fancy Free. He would later describe working at the Mouse House as his main cartoon-drawing classroom.
