Perry’s screenplay for Why Did I Get Married Too? is admirable, walking the line of drama and comedy and succeeding on both levels. There’s no question that some of the dialogue is downright corny, and yes, the screenplay is sprinkled with some melodrama. But otherwise, his writing is fittingly funny and powerful in subject matter. Some of the movie’s best moments are its most subtle—the uncomfortable silences reluctantly shared by friends, the conspicuous mental and emotional fatigue seen in the eyes of several characters. At times when you least expect it to be, Why Did I Get Married Too? is surprisingly sophisticated.
But Why Did I Get Married Too? also works because of Perry’s use of the classic theme of logic vs. emotion—each of his characters are either one or the other, and this sets the stage for progressive conflict and build-up in his story. Furthermore, Perry's ability to produce and execute plausible problems between characters, issues which very much exist outside of movie theaters among couples [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], makes him all the more credible as a writer and director. All the while, he smartly never labels any of his characters as the antagonist—he leaves the judging up to us based on our own perceptions.
Why Did I Get Married Too?, Perry’s sequel to his 2007 hit Why Did I Get Married?, focuses on four couples who reunite to take their annual vacation together to share news about their lives and marriages. This time, they decide on a sunny stay in the Bahamas.
