A bad bust here, ineffective handling of a police situation there sees our men in blue put on a short leash because of their various indiscretions. Most of their problems relate to the drug trade and some cocky criminals out to control the market of illicit narcotics in New York and beyond. Target number one is local tough guy Raul who is an import from some Latin American country. Juan Carlos Hernandez embodies all evil as the tempermental Raul [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], a man who shoots first and asks questions later. Against this backdrop all sorts of shenanigans ensue with many of New York’s finest dragged into a sordid affair of mistakes [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], mishaps and missteps galore.
Director Kevin Smith (Jersey Girl) knows his way around the comedy track and he’s concocted a ridiculous police story that works well because of the two leads. Willis is terrific and as cocky as ever as a wise-cracking by the book officer while Tracy Morgan is the real find here as the completely off the wall second banana whose methods of policing will set law enforcement back decades, if not centuries. Audiences won’t be able to contain their laughter as the scenes between these two well-meaning buffoons and the audacity of the bombastic dialogue borders on the insane.
All is not well in New York. Precinct troubles plague the captain of one particular police station where two of his men have a habit of continuously screwing things up. Nothing officers Jimmy Monroe or Paul Dodges do seems right. Bruce Willis (Live Free or Die Hard) comes on sort of strong as bad cop Jimmy while Tracy Morgan (The Longest Yard) must make do as fall guy Paul. One would never figure these two as partner material and their strength lies in how they deal with one another when the going gets tough.
Lots of bullets fly freely as the crime scenes explode in another race against time thriller. Ethnic stereotypes are in full view here as are the hilarious take-offs on other popular films and genres what will have cinema buffs rolling their eyes heavenward as the zaniness just keeps on piling up.
