Whether it’s a one day event or a week-long celebration, there are a number of music festivals taking place over the summer. From jazz, rock [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], folk, country or any musical style to suit your taste, each festival is unique in what it has to offer. So, to narrow it down, here is a guide to some of the music events happening throughout Alberta.
June 4 – June 6
Calgary Region
Location: Medicine Hat – Downtown
Alberta Badlands
This year, there will be over 70 performances, including one by the legendary Ben E. King, at the festival. Stephen Avenue’s clubs and concert hall will be hopping every night of the week with musicians from around the world. It will definitely be worth checking out because as the Calgary Jazz Fest website says, “It’s a seven day party with the best musicians in the world!”
Heart of the City showcases the diverse music and art of Edmonton's local artists. Featuring all levels in music and visual art, the festival is perfect for the entire family or just to go hang out with friends. Other activities will include face painting, food vendors and a variety of art tents. All performances are free.

Location: Calgary – Downtown/Olympic Plaza
Edmonton Capitol Region
Heart of the City Festival: a music and arts celebration
Location: Edmonton – Giovanni Caboto Park, in Little Italy
Calgary Jazz Festival
These are just a few of the wonderful music festivals and events Alberta will be hosting this summer. There are also a number of concerts and festivals taking place in Ontario, Saskatchewan and Manitoba. So make the most of your summer and get out there and enjoy the music!
June 21 – June 27
Location: Canmore – Centennial Park
This Sunshine Celebration transforms downtown Medicine Hat into a three-day jam-packed party for the whole family. The streets will be filled with markets, food fairs, a family fun zone and a number of street performers for everyone’s enjoyment. Each day will also provide free live stage performances of great bands and musicians.
Alberta Rockies
Come by the park “for a weekend of unforgettable performances, food [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], artists and community spirit.” As the website says, the Canmore Folk Festival hopes to educate and cultivate an appreciation for, and enjoyment of [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the folk music of Canada and other countries; educate and provide opportunities for children to become familiar with folk music and the musical instruments of many countries; provide opportunities for national and international folk performers to become known in the area; and stimulate international understanding through a common interest in folk music.
Calgary Folk Music Festival
This year there will be 68 artists from 14 countries performing on seven stages. From indie singer-songwriters, roots and country veterans to blues masters, the festival has a little bit of something for everyone. Some of the performers include Roberta Flack, Del Rey and Alberta’s own Dojo Workhorse.
